FAQ 21 questions

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about booking, what is included, sailing in Komodo, diving, and overland trips in Flores and Sumba.

Booking and prices

How much do the tours cost?

Prices depend on the number of guests, the departure date, and your choice of boat or accommodation. That is why every tour is marked "On request". Send a request from the tour page and we will reply with a full quote.

How do I book?

Open the tour you want, fill in your name, contact number, date and number of guests, then tap "Book on WhatsApp" or "Book by Email". A message with your request details goes straight to our team, and we will confirm availability.

Do I have to pay when I send a request?

No. Nothing is paid when you send a request. We send you a full quote first, and you decide after reading it.

Can the itinerary be adjusted?

Yes. Every programme is indicative, so the order of visits, the number of nights and the schedule can be adapted to your flights, road conditions and wishes. Write your requests in the notes field when you book.

What is included

Are flights included?

No. Flights and airport taxes are generally not included. Airport transfers are included in many overland and combined tours. You will find the details under "Included" on each tour page.

Is the Komodo National Park entrance fee included?

In most tours, park entrance fees and ranger services are included. Because every tour is different, check the "Included" section on the tour page or ask when you book.

What is not included?

Usually flights and airport taxes, personal expenses, extra drinks, tips and travel insurance. On some tours, accommodation before or after the trip is not included either.

Is travel insurance included?

Generally not, unless confirmed by the operator. We recommend bringing your own travel insurance. For diving, choose diving insurance that covers medical evacuation.

Are Spanish-speaking guides available?

On our 14 to 16 day Indonesia tours, local Spanish-speaking guides are available, subject to availability. For other tours, let us know your language needs when you book.

Komodo and sailing

What is the difference between a liveaboard and a hotel tour?

On a liveaboard you sleep on a traditional Indonesian boat (pinisi) anchored near the islands, so you can enjoy sunsets and mornings at sea. On a hotel tour you sleep in Labuan Bajo and explore the national park by boat during the day.

I only have one day. What can I see?

The 1-day speedboat tour can visit Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point and Taka Makassar, depending on the itinerary and sea conditions.

Am I sure to see Komodo dragons and manta rays?

Komodo dragons can be seen in their natural habitat on a walk with a ranger on Komodo or Rinca Island. Manta rays, turtles and other marine life are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Can the sailing route change?

Yes. For safety, the order of visits can change with the weather, sea currents, Komodo National Park regulations and the captain’s decision.

I am on a cruise ship. Is there a tour for me?

Yes. The 1-Day Komodo Cruise programme visits Loh Liang on Komodo Island and Pink Beach, timed around your cruise ship’s stopover.

Can I sail from Labuan Bajo to Lombok?

Yes, on a 4-day, 3-night voyage via Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point and Sumbawa before arriving in Lombok. Accommodation before or after the voyage is not included.

Diving

Do I need a diving certificate?

For the 4-day dive liveaboard, a recognised certification and suitable experience are recommended, because some areas of Komodo have strong currents. Certification, courses and try dives are not included in the tours.

How long should I wait before flying?

As a general guide, wait at least 12 hours after a single no-decompression dive, and 18 hours after multiple dives or multi-day diving. Many operators recommend a longer gap, so plan your last dive and your flight carefully.

Flores and Sumba

Where do overland tours of Flores start?

Usually in Ende or Maumere in the east, heading west through Moni, Kelimutu, Bajawa and Ruteng before ending in Labuan Bajo. On combined Komodo and Flores tours it runs the other way: sail Komodo first, then travel east across Flores.

Is travelling overland in Flores tiring?

Roads in Flores are winding and distances between towns are long, for example from Wae Rebo to Labuan Bajo. You travel by private transport with a driver and local guide. If needed, we suggest adding a transit night for more comfort.

Can I stay overnight in the traditional village of Wae Rebo?

Yes. Several Flores tours and combined Komodo and Flores tours include one night in a Niang, a traditional Wae Rebo house, with the local community.

How many days are ideal for Sumba?

For 3 days and 2 nights, we suggest focusing on West Sumba: Weekuri Lagoon, Mandorak Beach and the village of Ratenggaro. With 4 to 5 days you can add the Wairinding hills and Walakiri Beach in East Sumba.
