01Beaches and lagoons of West Sumba
Weekuri Lagoon is known for its crystal-clear turquoise water, sheltered from the waves by coral rock. Not far away is Mandorak Beach, a small white-sand cove framed by cliffs.
02Living traditional villages
In the villages of Ratenggaro and Praijing, houses with towering roofs stand beside the stone tombs of the ancestors. The people still keep the ancient customs of Sumbanese culture, so visit respectfully and follow your local guide.
03Waterfalls and hills
Lapopu Waterfall cascades in tiers through the forest, with pools perfect for a swim. In East Sumba, the Wairinding hills offer rolling savanna that changes colour with the seasons, while Walakiri Beach is famous for sunsets among the mangroves.
04How many days in Sumba?
For a 3-day, 2-night programme we suggest focusing on West Sumba and avoiding the long drive east. With 4 or 5 days you have time to add the Wairinding hills and Walakiri Beach.
The schedule can be adjusted to your flight times, road conditions and where you stay.
